another dress

I made this dress for my niece a few weeks ago, but didn't post it because I wanted to keep it a surprise. I made a matching doll sling, but it did not fit, so I am going to try and make another one.

Changes

First
One week ago I got my hair cut and now I have bangs. I really like my hair and think it is a nice change.

Second
After four years of talking and thinking about it I decided that for my birthday I would get my kids birthdays tattooed on my wrist. Porter's birthday is in roman numerals because his middle name is Roman and Liesl's is in German because her middle name is Maedchen. My mom was not a fan of it, but I love it and that is all that matters really. I had it done at Two Roses in Barrio Logan and really liked the artist Nico who did it and the vibe of the shop.

a play

I had some friends over the other day and the kids came to us and said that they had a play that they put together. The moms sat on the couch to watch the performance and it was so cute.

back to school

Today was Porter's first day of school. When I picked him up and asked him how his day was and what he did, he told me that he did not remember. Later I learned that he took a girl named Piper on a bike ride and the she was wearing blue, had pig tails and was so cute. He also said that this new class has a lot of cool toys, way better than his old class room. Porter was tired today, but we went to get ice cream after school just like we did last year. I told him it was a tradition and he asked what a tradition was, so we talked about other traditions and it was a nice time.

today

Today started with work on our crumbling 96 year old foundation.
Since all this construction work was going on today I took the kids to a park Downtown. I saw it for the first time in July when we were riding the trolley to the convention center, so it took me a while to find it by car. The park I saw ended up being right across the street from the new children's museum. We have not gone to the museum yet, but the kids had a fun time at the park.

The kids were hungry, so we met up with Jason at his work and went to lunch together. Jason's parent company merged with a larger company and are moving to a new office quite a bit further from where we live. This was probably the last time we could meet him at this office.

soccer fun

Porter had two soccer practices and he was a little slow to warm up and did not like it that much. Porter would call out the coaches name and try to get his attention instead of joining in on what he was trying to teach the kids. I was expecting the same from him this past Saturday at his first game. Porter was excited to wear his uniform and joined the team in the warm up without hesitating. When the game started he sat out the first quarter and watched his teammates and by the time it was his turn he was ready to play. Porter's team is aged 6 and under coed and most of the kids are bigger and older than him, but he got right in there and went after the ball. He would just kick it and never had much control of the ball for long, but I was so happy he had fun. The team has a few superstars, so they scored about 8 goals, but the other team did not score any. Porter is number 2 and in the middle of the video when it begins.

new dress

I bought this fabric a few months ago to make a dress for Liesl. I never got around to it until yesterday when Liesl asked for a yellow dress. Liesl was looking at a book and the girl had on a yellow dress, so she wanted one too. I got out this fabric and I asked her if she liked it and she said "yes". I made the dress and it is a little big, but she does not like it now because it is not pink. I had to tell her I would give her a piece of candy if she put it on for a photo, she never asked for it, but I kind of feel bad for doing that. Anyway, I think it is such a cute dress and hope she wears it someday.

Soccer Time

Porter's coach called me on Sunday to tell me that soccer practice starts on Thursday. We registered in June, so Porter has been talking about soccer for a while now and is really excited. There is a store a few blocks from us that only sells soccer equipment, so I walked up there yesterday to buy Porter his gear. Porter was so excited to buy his cleats, shin guards, socks and ball, he wanted to put them on right when we got to the park. My first instinct was to say "no" and make him wait until Thursday to wear them, but then I realized that it was no big deal and let him put them on at the park. We kicked that ball around for a while and had a fun time. I took a picture of him when we got home and then he wanted me to take a picture of him showing his shin guards.

three days

I grew a strawberry tomato. My good friend and fellow blogger signed me up for a gardening class this fall. I can't wait to really learn about gardening and hang out with my friend, without kids!

I went on a 20 mile bike ride to Point Loma last night, we stopped at The Pearl for a drink before we rode home. It was a fun ride, but it was really easy and since I ride the kids around all the time, when I am riding with out them I want to push myself. When I ride with the kids that is my free leisure time, it is hard. but I want to push myself further when I an riding without the kids. Maybe I need to go on more rides with Jason, but it is just hard because we have kids. We each go out quite a bit, but we maybe go out together once or twice a month if we are lucky.
Tonight we went to Balboa Park to watch a movie. The kids had fun and fell asleep by the time we got home. Friday we are going too House of Blues to see a band and have fun.

New Park

Last week we went and checked out this new park by my friend's house. It has a water feature just like the one at this park that is about 25 minutes away, so I was excited to have one close to us. I am not sure if there is a name for the park, but it was down by the bay in Barrio Logan. The kids had a great time playing and I had a great time chatting with my friend.

Fixed

About two months ago I rode my friends fixed gear bike down the block and loved it! I have talked about wanting to get one for myself ever since, but Jason needed a new bike before me, so I knew it would be a while. Last Thursday Jason rode his friends fixed gear and started talking about getting one. All the time I talked about getting one he would make comments about it, saying things like "I don't get what the big deal is". So, when I got an email from him about a Craig's List add yesterday I just laughed. Was he seriously thinking about getting one before ME? He just bought a really nice road bike a month ago! We found a nice single speed bike that we both can ride and it can be converted to a fixed gear later. So, yeah we bought a bike last night, Jason rode it to work today and I am going to take it out tonight on my weekly bike ride.

garden

I have not had much luck with my garden this year and these buggers have had a field day with my tomatoes.

Anyone have any idea why my tomatoes are like this on the bottom?

three

Porter, Savannah and Liesl

religion part 4

I did not know there was going to be a part 4, but her goes.....

Today we were at my parent's house, Porter and my Mom were playing in the pool and there was talk of who was bigger and that Porter would be big one day too. Porter said that the "man who made the Earth was really really big" and my Mom asked him if he knew the name of the man who made the earth. Porter said "no" and my Mom said "god" and Porter said something like, I like god or I love god. I can't speak for my Mom, but from what I gather, I think, that she thinks, that children know about god even if you don't tell them. I know it is what she believes to be true, but it is not what Jason and I believe, so I really don't like her telling Porter about it like it is fact. I don't care if she talks about god with the kids I just want her preface it with "this is what I believe to be true" I know my Mom will share her beliefs and that is fine, I grew up in a church and I don't think it hurts people or it is bad. I just want my kids to know that there are a lot of beliefs out there and there is not just one way to think or one set of beliefs that they can follow if they choose to do so. Anyway, I love my family and I had a nice Sunday with them.

shhh

The kids are playing quietly together in their room. This is such a rare moment, so I am going to try and get my sewing machine out and make something.

MIA

So it is two days shy of two weeks since my last blog entry. One of the reasons why I signed up for the blog 365 was because if I don't do it everyday I have long breaks. My last post was from our trip to Seattle and Portland, we had a great time. Our schedule up there was late nights and late mornings, so it has been really hard to break it since we have been back. We got home one week ago, but Jason had the rest of the week off and we had the Comic Con to attend, friends to see, bike rides to go on and the premier of Mad Men to watch. I blog at night and all of my nights have been too busy to sit down and write. It is fun being busy, but I am craving some routine and want to try and get the kids back on some sort of a schedule. We are not really schedule people, but I think it will help us. I thought that I would be back on track this week now that the vacation is over and Jason is back at work, but we are going to Merced and San Jose in two days. Jason's daughter, who he gave up for adoption, used to live in San Jose, but moved to Alabama two years ago and she is in San Jose for the week. She is so close that I felt we had to see her so I am driving with the kids up to Merced on Thursday to visit with some friends and then Jason is flying up on Friday morning. We are just going to hang out with her for an afternoon and I hope it is a nice visit. I don't know when I am going to get back on the blogging waggon, but I hope it is soon.
