Bike

I have been looking for a bike on and off for about 6 months now. Most bike stores are closed on Sundays so we only had Saturdays to look for one and for some reason it was hard to get our act together. We went to about every shop in San Diego that sells used road bikes, we even went to Santee with no luck. Well yesterday we went to this store in La Jolla called Veloculture and I found a bike that I really liked. They did not have it put together so we went back today (they are open on Sundays now) and I rode it around for a bit and bought it. I can't wait to go on bike rides at night with Jason well, maybe when it warms up a little bit.

Balloon Parade

Thursday we went down to the waterfront to watch the Big Bay Balloon Parade, "America's Largest Balloon Parade". Jason has told me about it for the last few years because it is close to his work but this is the first year I took the kids. We got there late but we did see some great balloons like Thomas and Jay Jay. Liesl kept on pointing and saying "see, see" and Porter was just fascinated with all the balloons. Porter was really sad when it was over and wanted to see more so I will have to make sure we are on time next year. After the parade we walked back to Jason's office and hung out there for a little bit before we went grocery shopping. My latest food cravings have been cabbage and tofu stir fry, last month it was cauliflower.

Wood Christmas

I was trying to write a Christmas post but it just sucked so I erased it. Christmas was fun, we had a really nice time and the kids toys were all made out of wood or cloth. Yay, I am done with that.

We are all well and looking forward to the New Year. My parent's offered to take the kids overnight on New Years Eve but they have never been away from us and I am not sure how it would go.

Wednesday morning I met my sister at my favorite children's store The Lily Pad because they were having a 50% off the entire store sale. I bought way more than I should have and Jason kind of yelled at me for it. Well he did not yell but he told me very sternly that I should have not spent the money. I got some great stuff thought so it was worth it.

I have a new name for my clothing/hair clip venture but I am not going to tell you yet. I am going to go down and get a business license and all that so I can order wholesale fabric and shirts. I am excited.

sick

We have all been sick this week but we are all healthy now. It was not fun but I am so happy Jason and I were not sick on the same day. I am still having some neck pain and head dizziness so I hope it goes away soon.
We went and bought the kids christmas presents and let them pick them out. We are kind of but not really doing the whole santa thing and they are so young they did not care too much that they did not get to play with their gifts right away. Jason is on his way to Carmel Valley to pick up some trains and track from a Craigslist listing. Porter is still really into trains so I think he will really like it. Belinda Carlisle's Heaven is a Place on Earth just came on the Big 80's station and I can't tell you happy that just made me. I remember my sister had a dance to this song, she was a big fan. I was more of a Madonna fan and made up dances to her songs. I have a sweet potato, pecan pie in the oven and when it is done we are going to my dear friend Elaine's house for her annual solstice party.

Check out this interesting Craigslist listing I found today.

Gala Foods

I went over to the Gala Foods market in South Park tonight to buy some tamale supplies. I bought 4 different types of dried chilies for the sauce, some corn husks and some Peruvian white beans that are kind of like pinto beans but better. They don't sell them in any of the stores I usually go to and they are not organic but they are so good I had to buy them. I love walking down the isles and looking at all the different kinds of food. The food is ridiculously cheap, a 7oz. bag of elbow macaroni was $.39. I wanted to buy it because it was so cheap but then what would I do with it?
Today was not a very good day but we are surviving. Liesl threw up 6 times today, the last time was at 12PM and she has nursed quite a bit, drank half a smoothie and some juice. I hope she is over it now but Porter did not eat very much today and has been complaining that his stomach hurt. I don't know if it is hurting because he is hungry or he is sick. He did not take a nap today so he feel asleep on his bed at 7 but woke up at 8:30 and he felt a little bit warm to me. If is laying on the floor watching The Grinch right now so i hope he falls back to sleep soon.
And I just have to post this not that shocking news.

Blanket

Porter has a special blanket that he likes to hold when he is sucking his thumb. I don't think I have ever seen him suck his thumb without his blanket. I let him have it in the house, car and stroller. Well this morning we were running late for school and he forgot to bring his blanket. About two blocks from our house he asked for it and when I told him we did not have it he started crying and yelling "I want my blanket". He asked me to go back to the house to get it and cried more when I said no. We got to school and he was still crying and so I told him we could go home if he wanted to. He said no but that he still wanted his blanket and so we walked to the school and he was sad. Porter hid behind me when the teacher said hi so I went and played with him for a minute and them I said by and walked away. I was doing something by the classroom and Porter came running up to me crying and saying that he wanted my to play with him. I ended up staying there playing with him for 20 minutes until it was time for them to go inside the classroom. I know Porter is attached to his blanket but I did not realize how much. I wonder how long he is going to want to sleep with it and suck his thumb.

Sandy's Workshop

Porter's school had a Santa's workshop where he went to pick out presents for Jason and I today. The presents are under the tree and when Jason came home he asked Porter where they came from and he said Sandy's workshop I said "where?" and he said it again. I thought it was cute.

North Park Dog Owners

Please be responsible owners and pick your dog shit up off my lawn. I am so tired of having to deal with dog shit when I don't even own a dog.

happy day

I woke up today really happy. I did not realize that I was that off until today when I was so happy. Anyway, I hope I have another happy day tomorrow because I like to be happy and not get so frustrated all the time. I started a new pole warmer today and it is almost done so I might be able to get it up tomorrow. Jason has been working on his project for the last month and that is all he wants to do so I don't get to use the computer at night anymore unless I want to go upstairs. I don't really like it up there so I just watch tv and knit or sew. I am tired.

Oh Christmas Tree

Oh Christmas tree how lovely are your branches. Those are the only words I know to that song but that did not stop me from singing that line over and over on our walk home from the Christmas tree lot. Today I decided that we would pretend we were city folk without a car and we walked up to buy our Christmas tree. We put the kids in the stroller and brought along the wagon for the tree. At the tree lot they said they could deliver it for free but I said no because I was really fixed on the image of us pulling the wagon with the tree in it. I brought my camera along to capture the moment. It was fun and it made me feel like I am not so suburban after all.

blah blah blah

I just want to lock myself in a room and sew or knit for hours and not have to deal with kids. I am having this strong desire to create something or do something stimulating. I am in a funk with this child rearing business but I don't want to do anything to change it right now I just want to complain. I am looking forward to the new year and wish that we could just skip over the holiday and get on with it. I am looking forward to January and hope that I can use the new year as motivation to change. I want to be a better parent and I need to create something. A friend from Seattle is coming down in February for an art show he is having at a new gallery in Little Italy. I want to knit up a pole warmer to promote it. I an thinking I want to knit a bunch of wrist warmers with a letter on each one. I could put them all up on the pole or I could have friends wear them and randomly go put them on the pole throughout the night. Anyway, just some ideas who knows if I will actually do it or not.
We went to the zoo yesterday and had a really run time. I had not gone since the end of September when our passes expired and it was nice to go again after such a long break.
Today I started walking up to the farmers market but it was really windy and cold and I was afraid it would start raining so I walked back and got the car. There were not very many vendors but I have been craving cauliflower lately so I bought one and some squash. Porter wanted a cookie but all we found was a lemon bar that this German lady was selling. It was the best lemon bar I have ever had I am probably going to go back next week and get another. I also bought some rolls from her then went home and ate a roll with some wine and cheese. It was a lovely afternoon snack.

Family Photos

We went and had a family pictures taken today and it went surprisingly well. I love the photo of my family, I just wish we were wearing Santa hats or matching holiday sweaters.

sleep vs. post

We woke up at 4:30AM yesterday and drove all the way to Utah in the rain. It was so not a fun ride but we made it here safely. We checked into out hotel and went over to my Grandma's place to visit for a while. After that we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner and the food was really bad I have nothing good to say about it. I ordered the 4 side option with vegetables, mashed potatoes, sweet potato and green beans. The vegetables were dripping in butter, the potatoes were too salty and buttery, the green beans were swimming in some kind of broth with chunks of bacon and the sweet potato was just baked but it did have a bunch of butter on it. The kids were into Andy, the mascot that was walking around greeting all the kids. I was so tired when we got home that I crashed at 8:30 while I was putting Liesl down. Jason woke me up and asked me if I wanted to get up and post but I said no because seriously what is more important?

Utah Or Bust!

So we leave for Utah in the morning and I am thrilled. We are waking up at 4AM and planing on leaving the house at 5PM. We are going to go visit my grandma and I know it will be a nice visit. I am just a little bit bummed about all the things we will be missing here. Jason's work party at the Aerospace Museum, the Premise party in the East Village and my old roommate is down from Portland for her 30th birthday party. All of these things are happening on the same night so I don't even know how I would be able to go to all but I am sad I am missing them. I made a pecan pie and I have some butter balls in the oven to take to my Grandma. She never eats anything homemade so I hope she enjoys the treats. I am off roll my balls in sugar and go to bed.

30 days

I am thinking about eating a vegan diet for the month of January. I just want to see if my body feels different on it. I am not 100% sure I am going to do it but I already cook a lot of vegan meals and I can bake vegan treats so I don't think 30 days will be that hard.

Jiffy Lube is lame

I posted a week ago about my experience with trying to get an oil change at Jiffy Lube. They told me that the place where the oil goes needed to be flushed because if they just fill it with new oil, the oil would turn black right away. They also told me that I needed a new air filter and that there was a pinging in the engine. When they told me this I told them that I would just take it to my mechanic and the guy said that my mechanic would say the same thing. He was wrong about all three things. My mechanic, dad of wannabe hippie said that the oil and air filter looked great and that there was no pinging. He did say that I needed new front tires but I new that so, my car is fine but I had to spend $42 to find that out. I will never go to a Jiffy Lube again.

fake or real?

Should we buy a fake or real holiday tree this year?

fun night

I had a good time at my friend Lorien's birthday party. The karaoke machine was a hit and we had a lot of fun. I was tired by the time I got home and Jason let me sleep in this morning. We went over to the Golden Hill Cafe for breakfast and that is about it. Jason wanted time to work on his project so I am in charge of the kids right now. They are sleeping at the moment so it has been relaxing. I went to Rosie's yesterday with my sister to buy some wool felt and more fabric. They did not have that many different colors but I am excited to use it since it feels really nice. I can't wait for my AA order to come in and make some more shirts.

Winter Garden

We had a great time last night at the Linkery, Red Fox Room and Livewire. It was a very nice 4th anniversary celebration.
Today we got up and went to my parent's house to help plant a winter garden. The kids had fun and played with their cousins really well.

misc.

We went to the park today and met up with a few people from playgroup. After the park we went to my parent's house for a little while. The kids had so much fun playing with each other and my brother spent a good hour playing with them. Liesl was having so much fun playing in the sand she threw a huge fit when we had to leave. Jason just took his mother to the airport and we are going to go out to dinner later for our anniversary.

Thanks Martha!

I was a little stressed about cooking a good turkey today since I don't cook meat that often and I am definitly not that good at it. I followed a recipe from Martha Stewart's Everyday Food magazine for herb butter turkey and it turned out great.

I also made the garlic mashed potatoes, cranberry chutney, mushroom stuffing and gravy from the recipes in Everyday Food. It was all so good and everyone loved it so that made me feel good. My Mom and Dad just hung out with my MIL and Jason while my sisters and BIL were in the kitchen cooking. My kitchen did not feel too small and we all worked well together so it was a lot of fun. My dad brought a large folding table so we were all able to sit and eat together. Porter and Liesl fell asleep right before we ate so I was a little sad that they did not get to enjoy dinner with us but it was also relaxing to not have to tend to them. When we sat down for dinner Shauna gave each of us two kernels of corn and we said what we were thankful for and put them in the jar. Amelia said she was thankful for the cats and dogs and Henry said he was thankful for bird seeds. Shauna picked up some english peas at the farmers market by her house so the kids had fun shelling them.

4 years

Today is our 4 year wedding anniversary and I get to make my first turkey.

day 21

Jason, MIL and the kids just left to go to the Zoo so I could clean the house and start prepping for tomorrow. I should probably be doing that right now and this later but I find when I put it off until the evening it does not happen as regularly. Liesl woke up crying and cried all morning I just wanted to throw her into the wall. She cries when I pick her up and she cried when I put her down. Can a 20 month old have colic?
I made some cinnamon biscuts from my Mosewood New Classics cook book this morning and they turned out okay. I made the Black Bean and Sweet Potato Hash from the same cookbook last night and it turned out really good. I kind of had to make Porter eat it by feeding it to him but he liked it. Porter would eat his favorite soup for lunch and dinner everyday if I let him. I was out of green lentils the other day so I made it with red lentils and it did not turn out very well. Porter's favorite soup is lentils, macaroni, carrots, onion, kale and potato. I flavor it with Better than Bullion or miso depending on what I feel like. Liesl loves it too so I don't know why I call it Porter's favorite soup, maybe because that it what he started calling it. Anyway, I have rambled on long enough about nothing important and I should get to work.
An old friend of Jason's and his family are going to come over at 6 so that should be fun.

crazy kids

I was standing at the kitchen sink this morning washing dishes and Liesl came up to my crying and started pulling at my leg. I looked at her and told her that I could not take another day of her crying. I felt bad after I said it even though she probably did not understand what I was saying. My kids decided yesterday that it was crazy/screaming/whining/crying day and I just could not take another day of it. Jason is off work and his Mom is here so the kids have been happy to have the extra attention. I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods today and I am almost positive I got everything I needed. My Mom called me right before I went to Whole Foods to tell me there was no parking. I went in another way and this lady was leaving so I waited but, she took forever to back out and a huge line of cars backed up behind me and they started honking. I got out of my car and started shouting at them and this one lady was cussing and yelling at me and said she was going to call the cops if I did not move. I got back in my car and put it in reverse and hit the lady in back of me, this made her even more mad it was really funny to see. Anyway, I am just joking I would never do that but it would be funny if I did.

deep sleep

I was in a really deep sleep this morning when my mom called to tell me that Letty the cleaning lady was not going to come. I should be cleaning the house right now because my MIL is arriving late tonight but I am being lazy. Nothing to say, maybe later.

Walk The Mommy

Liesl has this this new thing where she will walk me to where she would like to be. She turned 20 months and forgot how to walk by herself so it has been fun but a little frustrating and she has started crying when I leave the house. It makes me feel sad sometimes but I know a little crying in her Daddy's arms is not going to scar her for life.
Today I had a craft fair at my house and it was a lot of fun but there are three things that really made me mad. I can't say what they are because you know I don't want to start any shit so I will just gripe to my Mom and Jason about it. Now you are all wondering what they are and I am sorry. I will say that I am pretty sure I am never going to have one at my house again. Maybe I have inspired someone else to have one at their house?

mexanan resternaut

Today we went to Bird Park and then to Picantes the Mexican restaurant up the street from us. Porter has been asking to go to the "mexanan resternaut by Bird Park" for the last week so we decided to go.
I am going to go on a bike ride with my friends tonight and Jason is going Downtown to celebrate our friends birthday.

Hair

Six months to a year ago Porter asked me why I have hair on my body and I told him that when he grows up he will have hair on his body too. This has turned into a weekly topic in our house about how he does not want to grow up because he does not want hair on his body. One time Jason told him that he could shave it off if he wanted too so that is something else he thinks about. When Porter starts talking about it I always tell him that it is not going to happen for a long time and that he does not need to worry about it. Today on our way home from school he was talking about being 4 on his next birthday and then he said he did not want to turn 5 and get hair on his body. I told him that it was not going to happen for a long time and told him when he was 15 he would get hair and he started to get upset and said he did not want to get older. I told him that if he did not have anymore birthdays then he would not get anymore birthday cake or presents so that calmed him down. I just don't know if I should have told him something else but I don't know what you are supposed to tell a child about body hair?

Oil

I had this feeling today that I might need an oil change when I was driving home from Porter's school. I went a different way and drove down a hill and my oil light went on for a second. I went home to let Liesl nap then I went to Jiffy Lube for an oil change. They tried to get me to buy the high mileage package and I said no just the basic oil change. About 10 minutes later the service man wanted to show me the dip stick and that there was no oil in the car and started talking about how bad it is for the car and that I needed to have it flushed out and all this crap. The kids were a little out of control so I just told him to do the oil change and I would take it to my mechanic later. 5 minutes later the kids were running around this dirty corner of the parking lot and the service guy comes up to me again with the air filter in his hand and tried to convince me to replace it. I was a little mean but I was frustrated and just wanted to get out of there so I said "no I just want my oil changed" in a really annoyed voice and I felt kind of bad. Anyway, I got out of there but my car is still in need of some work. It has started pinging.

meat

I went to The Lnkery for dinner last night with Sara and Ticey. I ordered the two sausage links plate and ate it all, it was so tasty. Sara, my fish only eating friend had a bite of the organic chicken link and loved it. I usual only eat meat once or twice a month but for some reason I have ate so much meat in the last week. It started earlier in the week when I was going to make some veggie chili with fake meat. I am really trying to not but a lot of processed food and I was thinking about what is really better for me. Do I buy fake meat with all the crap they do to it to make it look and taste like ground meat or do I buy some organic ground turkey? I bought the turkey and the chili was really good. Friday my Dad asked me to make some chicken soup so I did and I made myself a chicken sandwich with some of the extra chicken. Friday night at Urban Solace we had chicken and dumplings and then last night the sausages. I think I need to go on a meat detox for the next week of two.

Circus Class

We went to try out circus class again today. The last time we went was in August and Porter was a little out of hand and did not do that well. Now that he has been in school and knows how a class works I thought we could give it another try. Porter has talked about circus class and about going again, on and off since we went so he was excited to go today. Porter was not that into doing forward rolls but he did have fun running around and jumping on the platforms. I had Liesl in a gym class that just ended today so she is used to a lot of the exercises and wanted to join in on the class. Liesl had a lot of fun and Oli was being really cute helping her off the platforms. The teacher was helping Liesl do a forward roll and said that she was really flexible and could be a contortionist. After class the teacher asked if she could test Liesl's flexibility and she stretched her into all these positions. The teacher said that only 2% of the population are born with good flexibility. Jason is double jointed and really flexible so I was not that surprised that Liesl is too. Anyway, Porter did really well in school today and I had a good day for the most part.

boring and bad

I was talking to Jason the other day and I was wondering if anyone other than people that I know will read this blog. I am not a good writer and I really don't think my life is that interesting to read. Jason said that you don't have to be a good writer you just have to wright about interesting things or you can be a good writer and wright about boring things. Anyway, I am just boring and bad.

Today we went to a park that I don't really like but Porter and Liesl had a lot of fun. I was feeling really bad with cramps but I took some ibuprofen and was better. I was going to go buy a birthday resent and pick up some wool felt today but a friend stopped by for a while and that was fun.

wrap up

Saturday morning my mom and dad said they were going to come over to help us trim a tree. We have to take the help when they offer because it may be months before they offer again. They are really busy with their own home remodel project so we are very grateful for the help. We were just going to trim the tree to get it out of the wires but then my Dad convinced Jason that we should just remove it.

When we were done with the yard work we went over to my parent's house to celebrate my brother and sister's birthday. Shauna was down from LA so the kids had a great time playing with their cousins. Liesl gets so excited to see Miranda it is really cute and sad that they don't get to see each other more often. There was a lot of alcohol consumed by all and we had a fun time.

cramps again

I seriously want to die right now this feels like labor. I had two periods with little pain when I was taking the herbs but my problem was supposed to be solved. Right now I just want to go to a Dr. and get a prescription for some drugs so I don't have to deal with this anymore. I felt the cramps coming on and I was waiting to see if they would go away but I had plans to go out so I took one Ibuprofen. I met my friend at her house and I just wanted to throw up I was in so much pain. We went to dinner anyway and I felt a little better after I ate but I just came home afterwards. This sucks. I don't know if I should go see the herbalist or try something else. Kombucha is supposed to help but I drink it almost everyday so I don't know about that. WHat else can I do other than have a hysterectomy?

8 minutes left

Okay I am going to follow Lorien and try to blog once a day for a month.
Today Porter rode his bike to the park like he does a few time a week. We kind of have a routine where we ride to the park, play at the playground and then go see if the velodrome is open. There was a cross country meet going on today and they run on the sidewalks and the trails. Porter was ahead of me and when I came around the bend I saw this lady pushing him off the sidewalk onto the grass. When he saw me he started crying and the lady said he is upset because she moved him. I just went and comforted him while my friend Kim talked to the lady. The runners were on the walkway where Porter was riding and she said 5 people told him to move and he did not listen. She said she had three kids and they all listen and he should listen. Kim told her that he is three years and what do you expect him to do it is a walkway. I was pretty upset and felt really bad for Porter. I told him that she was a bad lady and to run her over the next time. I then felt bad for saying that so I told him that she was just not nice and that we would stay away from her. When we were riding back home we had to go past all of the runners and parents because the set up right by the playground and Porter just wanted to ride slow right next to me. That was the drama for the day.

Happy Halloween!

Porter woke up this morning and asked if it was Halloween after I said yes he said "but it's not dark out". This morning I was trying to clean the house so I let Porter watch Dora's Halloween show two times. He wanted to keep on watching it but we had to get dressed to go to Jason's work. Jason's work was having a party so the kids and I put on our costumes and went down there. The food was really good and we had a fun time.

The kids both took a three hour nap today and when they woke we carved pumpkins. My parent's came over with a pizza, salad, pie and ice cream for dinner. It was a little crazy around here trying to get the kids in their costumes but we did go trick or treating for a few blocks. Porter was so excited that I could not get a picture of them both looking at me.

When we got home Porter just wanted a red lollipop so I found one that our neighbor gave us that was organic and good. He wanted this bright red one but I convinced him that the other one was better. Liesl ate a lolly pop as well and then they both ate a little ice cream. After ice cream they took their bath and I put the great pumpkin presents in the laundry room. Porter was excited and liked his block and Liesl really liked her little doll. It was a good day.

daddy song

A few weeks ago when I was driving Porter home from school I turned the radio on and Gewn Stefani's Holla Back Girl was on. I asked him if he liked the song and he said "no I want a Daddy song". I changed the station and Marilyn Manson's Beautiful Prople was on and he was all "yeah this is a Daddy song turn it up". When I turn on the radio now I ask him if it is a Daddy song or a Mommy song. The funny thing about it is that Jason and I listen to the same kind of music and I have no idea where he got the idea of a Daddy or Mommy song.

never again

I did something today that I hope to never have to do again. I went to the funeral of a 3 year old girl who pulled a dresser on top of herself. My friend Sara was over this morning and I was still not sure if I wanted to go but she offered to watch the kids so I went with my mom. I am happy I went and my heart aches for the family.

Imagination Stick

This evening Porter pointed a pen at me and said his imagination stick was going to turn me into a bear. He then turned me into a parrot, fox and dinosaur and we ran around the house acting it out. Liesl stopped coloring to join in on the fun and Porter said he learned about the imagination stick at the art studio at his school. I have been feeling lately that I don't want him in school but he is learning so much more there than if he was at home with me.

The fires got really close to my parent's house last night but they were not too worried about having to evacuate. My brother called them at 3AM because he was in the area for some reason and they all stood in the back yard watching the fire.

Saturday night we went to my friend Sara's 30th birthday party. It was a prom themed party so I wore my prom dress from 1995. It looked really bad on me and I was not feeling that great in it but oh well. We had a fun night and Sara had a fun time too. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I told Porter earlier in the evening that the babysitter was going to come and he told me that he did not need a babysitter because he was not a baby. I told him that we could call her the kid sitter and he was okay with that. Sunday morning Porter told me that he had ice cream and asked me if I was mad. I asked him why and he said that when he asked the sitter if he could have ice cream she asked him if I would be mad and he said no.

Saturday I went to JoAnn's for some fabric and when I got there I turned around and looked at Liesl and she just started throwing up all over herself. I did not have a change of clothes so I just took off the dirty ones, put a jacket on her, put her in the sling and went into the store. We met up with Jason and Porter at the Mexican restaurant up the street and Liesl threw up a little bit more but that was it. Yesterday my stomach was feeling bad and in the evening I threw up so maybe it was the same thing that Liesl had.

Sad Day

My sister called earlier today and asked me if I had talked to our mom. I said "no, why" then she asked if I was sitting down and told me that an old friend's 3 year old daughter died on Thursday. Niki and I were really good friends in High School but I was a year older than her and we lost touch after I graduated. The last time I saw her was at Porter and Henry's 1st birthday party. Her daughter Kendall was so cute and looked just like her dad, a friend of ours from youth group. My mom ran into an acquaintance at the store who told her about it so the story I have is that Niki put Kendall in her crib for a nap and a shelf fell on her neck. When Niki went in to get her she was blue so they think she died instantly. I can't even begin to understand the kind of pain they are going through right now. Shauna is going to come down and we are going to try and go to the funeral this week. I have to figure out what to do with the kids because I would not feel right bringing them with me. All day I have been hugging the kids a little more and just hoping that noting ever happens to them.
We have done a lot this week but I just don't feel like writing about it right now.

Beana the bunny and the pumpkin patch

Last weekend we took Liesl to Build A Bear to use a gift certificate that she received for her birthday 7 months ago. Liesl picked out a bunny and Porter helped fill it with stuffing and three hearts. Porter was really good and only asked a few times why he did not get to have one too. Before we went to the mall I told him that Liesl was going to get a bear and he was going to get some clothes so he was alright with it. Anyway, after the bear was stuffed and ready to go Porter decided to name the bunny Rabbit. Liesl started calling Rabbit, Beana her version of bunny so that is was we call it now. She loves Beana and will wake up in the middle of the night saying Beana until she finds it.

Porter and Liesl also went on the pony ride and Porter had fun but L was a little scared. Porter was asking about the horses and if they were fast because the last time he was on a horse was at Griffith Park in LA a few months ago. We need to go to LA again but now that Porter is in school it is a little harder to make it work. I guess he could just miss a day or we could drive up right after school.
This week we have a spaghetti social at Porter's school and I am part of the clean up team. Yay!

sick

The kids and I have been sick for the last two weeks and I just want to be 100% again. I have not written in a while because I get kind of bummed when randoms find this site and post stupid comments. I removed the posts but anyway on to other things.
Last weekend we went up stairs to hang out for a while because Letty was cleaning the house. I turned on the Karaoke machine and we all started rocking out.

Later we went bike shopping again but did not have any luck. My Mom, Dad and Shauna's family came over Saturday night for pizza and had a nice time but our clean house was not so clean when they left. Saturday night we went to the Ken Theatre to see the musical Buffy sing-a-long. It was a lot of fun but it went late and we did not get home until after 2AM. Sunday we spent the day at my parent's house celebrating my Mom and Miranda's birthday.

Jason had Monday off so we went and got both of the kids hair cut in La Jolla. While we were up there we tried to go to a bike shop but it was closed so I was a little bummed but oh well.
Not much went on this past week but I did meet up with some friends and we checked out this new restaurant The Commonwealth Cafe. The food was good but we were not all served at the same time and the food was a little cold but I will definitely go back. One thing that kind of bother me was that my veggie burger was served on a really small plate and there were no condiments other than ketchup and mustard. It was nice to get out with friends and talk so it was a good night.
Last night we went to the new Cafe Zia on Adams but they were not really ready to open so just got a few pieces of cake and we went to Dao Sun with some friends.
Today we went to the North Park Library and then I took Port to a fun birthday party.

Engine Turtle

At school yesterday the kids were talking about what they were going to be for Halloween. Porter said that he and Tanner want to be Superman, Harrison is going to be a fireman, Athena is going to be a rabbit and Owen and Bruno are going to be Engine Turtles. I think he was trying to say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I thought it was a bruise

Sunday I was at my parents house and my mom said to me "you have a varicose vein" I said "what, I thought that was a bruise" I have had a bruise on my leg for months and I never could remember how I got it. My mom said "well you know Natalie you are getting older". Yay, I am 30 for a week and I have a varicose vein. There is someone on my kombucha yahoo group that has treated them with kombucha cream. I made some kombucha cream but I ended up throwing it away after a day because it freaked me out.

When we were living in Golden Hill we never had home improvement solicitors but we get them at least once a week over here in NP. They usually come in the early evening when I am feeding or bathing the kids and I can't help it but be a little rude to them. This evening Liesl was eating at the bar(where she has fallen off the chair at least 5 times) eating and I went to the door and the man said to me "is a homeowner around" WTF do I look that young? I said "yes and I am not interested in any home improvements" the man tried to give me some flyer but I just said no thank you and shut the door. He left mad and I felt bad later because he is just trying to make a living.

I was really rude on Monday night at knitting and I kind of feel bad about it. I bought one of my favorite desserts, a lemon bar and I ate it all without offering it to anyone. What made me feel bad is that my friend(who I was sitting next to the whole time while I was shoving the yummy bar in my mouth)bought one when we were leaving.

School is going well for Porter and he has some friends so things are good.

Projects

I am sick and I can't remember what I was going to wright about so I am just going to list the projects I am working on.

I am working on this top for Miranda's first birthday present. I decided to knit it in the round instead of flat like the pattern said and I think it will turn out cute.

I am working on a pole warmer that is made up of a bunch of single letter wrist warmers that you can take off. The idea would be that you could come up and rearrange the letters into a new word or take a wrist warmer to wear.

Porter told me he would like to be Superman for Halloween so I am going to have a costume made. I could just buy one but the store ones are so cheesy with the fake puffed out chest. I could do it but I just don't have the time right now and am lazy.

Thursday evening my friend and I went to Urban Solace for dinner. The food was excellent and I had a really nice time.

Friday night I went to the Casbah with some friends and had a good time. I wish that Jason was able to come with us but I was not able to find childcare.

I think we are going to go to the Adams Ave. Street Fair for a little while in the morning. I hope I feel well enough to go.

mensa baby

Liesl was siting at the bar playing with cars while I was doing dishes this afternoon. She started to cry so I gave her a bowl, put a car in it and said one and she took the other car and said two. My 18 month old can count what can yours do?

Last night

Porter woke up around 10:30PM so he watched the last part of Heros with us before Jason took him back to bed. About 6 months ago when I would put Porter to bed I started telling Porter true stories about when Porter was a baby. Porter started asking Jason for stories and Jason would make up stories about Porter being on adventures and stuff. So last night when Jason took Porter back to bed he wanted a story. Jason told a story about how Porter and his friend rode their bikes to the grocery store and when they were coming out there were these big boys who said "give me your money" and Porter said "and I had a knife and I cut their heads off" Jason just started laughing and told him no you went back in the store and told the manager. Anyway I was cracking up when Jason told me but it was a little disturbing to me that he said that.

30th Birthday Party

I spent the first part of the day laying out by the pool, reading and drinking. I was on one side of the pool and everyone else was on the other side with the kids. It was nice to just sit and relax for a while. Jason went and picked up some food for us and it was so good. There was a lot left over because three families ended up not coming but we ended up eating it all in the evening.

Jason bought me a kerioke machine and we had so much fun with it! Some memorable moments were my two costume changes and a fall that left me with many scratches. It was so much fun and I really enjoyed me birthday weekend.
