trip

I talked to my sister last night about going to visit her for a couple of days, so this morning I asked Porter what he wanted to do and he said go to my cousins house. We left around 12 and there was some traffic so it took us a while to get up here. Henry's birthday is tomorrow so I think we are going to go over to this fun public pool that has a lot of great water features for the kids. It is hot up here and I am not a fan of it, but we are having a nice time.

camping fun

We had a really fun time camping with our playgroup this weekend. I think that I prefer going in early June when it is a little cooler. When I get hot I can get grumpy and I think I was a little grumpy this weekend. Porter and Liesl had a great time wandering and exploring with their friends. I didn't take any pictures until we were packing up and all that was left at our site was the tent.

hot hot hot

It is hot out here and I am a little miserable. We were going to go to the falls to cool off, but the kids fell asleep when we got in the car. We are on our way back to the campground right now and I think I am going to try and take a shower before the kids wake up. I just want to cool off.

We are going to be heading out to Paso Picacho campground in Cuyamamca in just a few hours. It is our annual playgroup camping trip and we are really looking forward to it.

hot

Today we went and signed up Porter for AYSO soccer. I played AYSO for 7 years growing up so I am really excited there is a North Park league and it is just three blocks from the house. It is really hot here so the kids are in the path tub with their suits on playing "pool". We were going to go to Legoland tomorrow for Porter's birthday but if it is this hot again we are just going to go to my parent's house to swim. Tonight we are going to Ocean Beach for a bonfire, I love the summer!

Friday

Today we had a little party for Porter with playgroup at the park down the street. It was hot, but fun and I got sunburned so that was not good.

This evening we went to the drive-in and watched Get Smart and Kung Foo Panda. The kids a great time and it was really nice to be outside enjoying the warm night.

great ride

Tonight my friend and I had a great ride through Balboa Park, Hillcrest, Normal Heights, Kensington, back through North Park to Golden Hill and home. We did stop at the Turf Club for some drinks before we rode home and it was just a great night for a fun ride. I hope we can make this a regular Wednesday night ride. My friend rides a fixie and I rode on the same gear as hers the whole time just to see what it was like. It was a little hard going up the little hills but not harder than pulling a trailer up a hill. It really is so much fun riding a bike on a warm Spring night!

New Neighbors

I just realized last night that we have new neighbors behind us. Two things I learned today about them, the woman smokes and they listen to country music. Our houses are so close together, if I have my kitchen window open I can hear everything. I hope these people stay as long as the last people.

seriously

How can you not sing to this song?

wedding

Yesterday was my little sister's wedding. It was a little crazy trying to get pictures of the kids, Liesl did not walk down the isle, Porter sprinted down the isle, the ring bearer threw the pillow in the air sending the rings flying, but other than that and me having to spend the ceremony in the cry room with Liesl, it was fun. The reception was fun and the chef made me a vegan dinner that was good, but not great. My dinner was three big wedges of pan fried unseasoned tofu with some vegetables and tomato sauce. The dancing and everything else was fun, but my sister had too much to drink and around 10:30M went to sleep in my parent's room. The reception did not end until around 12:30 so we got home around 1PM. My friend had come earlier to pick up the kids so we were able to enjoy the evening without having to watch the kids.

Tower Bar

Thursday nights at the Tower Bar my friend D.J.s. Jason usually goes but this past Thursday I decided to go with a friend. It is a small bar but the inside is nicely decorated with a lot of vintage beer and alcohol memorabilia. It was a lot of fun and the music rocked! If you want something fun to do on a Thursday night you should check it out.

last day of school

Today was Porter's last day of preschool and it was kind of sad. I am happy to be having a break from any kind of schedule, but sad that my little boy is growing up so fast. For the last day they had a special meal of Dinosaur chicken shapes and french fries, can it get any worse than that? At the beginning of school I told the teacher not to let Porter have any meat, but they don't serve it at snack time so I did not think that they would be serving it. Anyway, today was another fun day! Thanks my friend!

Big Rock Park

Monday we went to Big Rock Park in Santee. The last time I went there was when Porter was just 6 months old and have been wanting go back now that the kids are older. There is a stream with some pretty gross water in it, but the kids had a blast throwing rocks into it and catching tadpoles.

garden

Here is my lovely vegetable garden but in all of this I only have two tomatoes. There are no squash blossoms or anything, what am I doing wrong? Is there not enough sun, should we cut down another tree or just thin them out to let in more sun?

goodnight Liesl

Tonight when I came home from knitting Liesl was still awake and asked for milk when she saw me. I just said no and she threw a little fit but it was not bad. Later on around 10Pm she was really tired and I took her to bed and laid with her until she fell asleep without any milk. This is the first time I have been able to do it, so I really think we are on our way to being done nursing.

Pala

My friend and I arrived at Pala around 10:45AM and met up with the rest of the group. We hopped in a limo and went wine tasting for 4 hours. I have never been wine tasting before and it was a fun time. Temecula wine country is beautiful and we made it to three different wineries. At the last one we sat under a beautiful tree and ate some food. When we got back to Pala we went to our room, changed into our bathing suits and went down to the pool. It was a nice and relaxing time just hanging out, talking with old friends and getting to know new. In the evening we went to dinner and then I played some blackjack for about an hour, at a few different tables. I only gave myself $20 to gamble and at one point I was up $65 but ended up walking away only making $20. It is $20 more I had before I started so I am happy with it. It was really sad walking around the casino and looking at all the people gambling, none of them were smiling. One table we were playing at this man put down $1000 cash and lost it all in about 10 minutes. I could never be a gambler, I just don't like loosing my money like that.
I came home earlier than the rest of the group because I think Jason wanted me to. The kids did not even care that I was gone and Porter said that he did not miss me. Liesl was a little happier to see me than Porter but still did not react too much and did not ask for milk. I nursed her this evening, but she didn't fall asleep while nursing, so she ended up passing out at 10PM watching the Golden Compass with Porter and me.

I'm off

I am taking off in a few minutes for my trip to Pala Casino. I hope I can win enough money to pay for the trip!

reality check

Nothing is worse than trying on bathing suits in a changing room with fluorescent lights. I know I don't have the body I used to have, but seriously those lights highlight every single flaw I have. I like my mirror at home and look totally different in front of it, but it makes me wonder what other people see. Jason thinks I should still wear a two piece but I am starting to think I might look better in a one piece with a skirt. I love the '70ish pattern on the suit I ended up buying
I wanted a new suit for my trip tomorrow to Pala casino for my friends bachelorette party. We are going wine tasting in Temecula and the spending the night at the hotel. Jason is a little nervous about being alone with the kids for a day and a half, but I know he will do just fine.

cousins

My sister came down yesterday so the kids were really excited to see them.
I met Shauna at the fabric store after I dropped Porter off at school. Liesl was so excited to see her cousins, it was really cute.

Shauna took Liesl and I took Henry with me to run some errands and to pick up Porter. Henry was a little shy at the school, but Porter really liked having him there. They were talking so much on the car ride home and being really silly.

While Liesl was taking a nap and Shauna was getting her hair cut I made a picnic for the kids on the lawn.

Baja Style Tempeh Tacos

I heard these tacos were really good and had to try them. I borrowed my friend Sara's copy of Veganomicon and made them the other night. These tacos were really good and I will definitely make them again. Jason liked them too and said they almost tasted like the fish burrito he buys at the taco stand by his work.

for your reading pleasure

Remember this post from Friday? Well I just received an anonymous comment about it and wanted to share it with you all. I think some of my friends and readers will find this entertaining!
Well now this is just proving the point that weaning should be done when solid foods are introduced, They trade nursing for solid foods. Thats how I have done it with all three of mine at 4 monthes they are all super healthy, happy, and they never have had to feel the sadness that your little girl is feeding. Its selfish to nurse them this late for your convienience.I swear with how long women go it must be about pleasure or something. When a child can ask for it, they are to old. It may be mothers milk but its also a boob something that has been used sexually should not be used to feed a child of that age! You should be ashamed of yourself. And same with all you women who don't cut them off when they should be cut off. They never learn to self- soothe. The breast is soothing. What are they going to do when they are 16 and get hurt buy the opposite sex? Come home to momma to suck on a boob because they haven't learnt to find comfort any other way? IF you want them to have the benefits of breast milk I understand that. Its called pumping. I've pumped for all mine throughout from 0-12 monthes very rarely did they get the breast. I sleep alone with my husband at night and get a full nights sleep.

It is comments like this that make me feel so happy to have my husband, family and friends around me who support me and my decisions.

Bike Rides

Friday night we went on the Critical Mass bike ride through San Diego. The last two rides there were 530 and 540, but this time there were 755 riders! It was really fun and I had a great time. This photo was taken right after we rode up Market Street. The hill was not too bad but I was happy to be at the top.
Sunday we went over to Coronado with some friends and rode bikes around the island, then had a picnic with good food and sangria. Jason rode down to the ferry and took it across because there was no room for his bike on the rack. It was such a nice time I can't wait to do it again.
